Nagato Yanagi is unit leader, professor at the Applied Superconductivity and Cryogenics Unit at the National Institute for Fusion Science (NIFS). He has been promoting fusion engineering research by being actively involved in the construction and operation of the Large Helical Device (LHD) (1989-2025) and in the Fusion Engineering Research Project (2010-2022) at NIFS. He has proposed revolutionary concepts to accelerate fusion reactor development, such as the use of High-Temperature Superconducting (HTS) magnets. He graduated and received a Ph.D. from Kyoto University.
