Major Joe Greenwood is Chief of Staff at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and an officer in the Parachute Regiment. Commissioned in 2009, he has commanded at each rank on operational tours spanning Afghanistan, Iraq, the wider Middle East, Eastern Europe and Africa.

He has spent more than a decade working with partners across government and in multinational and joint environments. His appointments have included service in the Ministry of Defence and Permanent Joint Headquarters (PJHQ). He holds a Master’s degree from Cranfield School of Management.

Joe became Chief of Staff at Sandhurst in 2025, at a pivotal point in its more than 200-year history. His role has included helping establish a new one-star command while delivering the Academy’s mandated outputs and reinforcing its position as an internationally recognised platform for the Army, Defence and the Nation.

Drawing on operational experience, strategic appointments and his role at Sandhurst, Joe has a particular interest in how Defence brings together people, technology, industry and investment to turn innovation into operational advantage.
