Matt Trevithick is a Managing Partner at Leitmotif, a decarbonization venture capital firm he co-founded in 2023. He is also an Operating Partner at DCVC, a leading deep tech venture capital firm, for whom he serves on the board of Fervo (enhanced geothermal energy). Previously, Matt was the COO of Google Quantum AI, where his team was the first to demonstrate that a quantum computer could exceed the capabilities of the world’s most powerful classical supercomputer at a specific task. He also led a seminal re-evaluation of low-energy nuclear reactions that included sponsored research at MIT and other universities, and facilitated Alphabet’s investment in Commonwealth Fusion Systems (fusion energy). Prior to joining Google, Matt was a Partner at Venrock, focused on clean energy technologies. His investments included Lucid Motors (electric vehicles), Nest (smart home controls), Phononic (advanced thermoelectrics), and TAE Technologies (fusion energy). Early in his career, Matt co-founded two Internet software companies that were subsequently acquired, practiced project finance in Asia, and researched superconductivity and other collective quantum effects. Matt earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a master’s degree in management from MIT’s Sloan School of Management.
