Speaker Bio
Tokamak Energy is a global leader in fusion energy and high-temperature superconducting (HTS) technologies. Founded in 2009 as a spin-out from the UK Atomic Energy Authority, we’re based in Oxfordshire, with subsidiaries in the United States and Japan.
Warrick Matthews joined Tokamak Energy in January 2023. He leads a team of over 300 people with world-class scientific, engineering, industrial and commercial capabilities focused on the rapid commercialisation of our leading fusion and superconducting technologies, partnering with governments and industry to deliver.
We’ve designed, built, and operate two of the world’s most advanced fusion devices: ST40, the highest magnetic field spherical tokamak, and Demo4, a world-first HTS fusion magnet system. These platforms are driving the development and commercialisation of cutting-edge fusion and HTS technologies and expertise.
Warrick also leads our TE Magnetics division, launched in 2024 and already generating multi-million-pound revenues, which develops and deploys HTS systems in partnership with industry across fast-growing markets, including power systems,
analytical science, propulsion and defence. He also oversees our subsidiary Ridgway Machines, acquired in 2025 to accelerate manufacturing of superconducting technologies.
Prior to Tokamak Energy, Warrick worked at Rolls-Royce for 24 years, where he held a variety of customer-facing and operations leadership roles, including most recently Chief Procurement Officer for the Civil Aerospace division.
