Julien Barber is a venture investor at Emerson Collective where he invests in consequential climate companies that use technology to break down barriers to the clean economy. Specifically, he focuses on the hardware solutions needed to decarbonize the economy such as nuclear fusion, energy storage, and other physical solutions in the energy, industrial, and transportation sectors.  Prior to joining Emerson Collective, Julien completed his graduate program in Mechanical Engineering at MIT’s Plasma Science and Fusion Center (PSFC) where he specialized in nuclear fusion technology. At the PSFC, he worked on the thermal stabilization of the high-temperature superconducting magnets for a reactor called SPARC, now under development by Commonwealth Fusion Systems.  Julien has been dedicated to climate for the past decade, co-founding Commons, a carbon-tech start up, investing in grid-scale energy infrastructure, and advising major brands on corporate climate strategy. Julien also holds an MBA from Stanford University.
