Dr. Fred Beranek received his PhD in Nuclear Engineering in 1978 from the University of Wisconsin studying neutronics in inertial fusion blankets. He began his 46-year nuclear career at the Savannah River Site progressing to become the Site Chief Engineer, worked at the Hanford Site in Richland, WA as Vice President of ESH&QA, assisted at the Sellafield Site in the United Kingdom as a Nuclear Safety Consultant and more recently led health and environmental research programs as an Associate Laboratory Director at the Canadian Nuclear Laboratories in Chalk River, Ontario. He has been with Fluor for almost 10 years and currently serves as the Director of Engineering for Fluor Nuclear Power and serves as the Nuclear Fusion Program Manager for the fusion effort within Fluor.
