Neil Mitchell is Head of Magnets at Gauss Fusion and a senior specialist in superconducting magnet systems for fusion. He has almost 45 years’ experience in magnetic fusion, beginning during the construction of JET and spanning more than three decades at ITER, where he was a founder member and led magnet design and global procurement for over 20 years. Neil’s experience extends beyond magnets to plant assembly and auxiliary systems, including cryogenic plants, thermal shields and vacuum systems, as well as across a range of mechanical engineering disciplines. Alongside his role at Gauss Fusion, Neil continues to contribute to ITER as an advisor.
