Heather Jackson is the director for enabling technology and partnerships at the DOE Office of Fusion Energy Sciences. She directs scope focused on establishing a competitive US fusion energy industry, including inertial fusion energy, compact fusion systems, novel confinement concepts, measurement and instrumentation, and fusion fuel cycle work, accelerated via public-private partnerships such as the milestone program, INFUSE, FIRE collaboratives, and the establishment of fusion test stands. Prior to FES, Heather served as a technology to market advisor at the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Energy, where she supported the commercialization efforts of ARPA-E fusion and advanced nuclear technology teams. Heather’s career has included a diverse array of roles in startup leadership and in the electric power industry. Heather’s entrepreneurial work has included projects that span clean energy hard tech, advanced manufacturing, affordable housing, and transformational medical technology. Heather’s utility industry work included decarbonization technology assessment and strategy, innovation, nuclear strategy, business planning, nuclear maintenance, health physics, and radiological safety. Heather’s research experience includes radiological dispersion device response, plasma diagnostics, pharmacology, and cancer therapy. Heather studied Physics, chemistry, and mathematics at Mercer University, Nuclear Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology, earned a senior reactor operator certification from Palo Verde Generating Station and earned an M.B.A focused on innovation and entrepreneurship from the University of Arizona.
