Marvel Fusion
Description
Marvel Fusion – founded in 2019 and based in Munich – is developing a laser-driven inertial fusion approach that uses ultrafast, high-contrast laser pulses and nanostructured targets designed to maximise coupling between the laser and fusion-relevant particles. Instead of relying on traditional thermal compression, Marvel focuses on non-thermal, particle-driven fusion mechanisms, enabled by tailored nanostructures that may offer greater scalability and lower driver-energy requirements.
The company is working toward a proof-of-concept demonstration by 2027, supported by collaborations with leading partners including Colorado State University (CSU), Thales, ELI-NP, and Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU), which contribute advanced laser systems, target-fabrication capabilities, and theoretical modelling expertise.
