Matthew Chew is a distinguished professional with a robust academic background from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He holds a Bachelor’s in Engineering Science (Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency) and a Master’s in Chemical Engineering from NUS, as well as an MBA and a Master’s in Nuclear Science and Engineering from MIT. His diverse studies emphasise problem-solving through the integration of multiple perspectives.

At MIT, his thesis focused on developing and assessing the feasibility of deploying microreactors, including the creation of feasibility frameworks for their application across different contexts.

Professionally, Matthew has contributed to advancing national capabilities at HTX’s CBRNE Centre of Excellence, where he worked on radiation imaging systems and enterprise system deployments.

At HY, he leads the company’s Digital Twin portfolio, advocating their use in enhancing sustainability and advancing carbon reduction strategies. Under his leadership, the portfolio is expanding to encompass new capabilities such as cybersecurity risk analysis and nuclear energy applications, aligning with HY’s long-term strategic goals. In addition, he serves as the Nuclear Energy Competency & Strategy Lead, driving the establishment of HY’s Nuclear Energy Competency Centre. In this role, he plans, identifies, and strategizes capability development in nuclear energy to align with HY’s transformation towards sustainability as a core mission.
